Biographical or Historical Information
The Royal Gorge Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind was formed May 10, 1975, with Velma Burford, Ann Zupan, Vera Ford, David D. Pottenger, Marion Kovak, and Eunice Harris as officers. The main purpose of the group was to educate the blind on independent living and the various resources available to them. Their motto was “I Resolve to Be the Best Blind Person God Ever Had.” Decreasing membership led them to decide to disband in 2009 after 34 years of operation. The unused funds and charter were sent to the National Federation of the Blind of Colorado.
